Birdwatching in Sycamore Canyon

We couldn't have chosen a nicer day for birdwatching!  Look how clear it is... view of downtown LA from Rose Hills.

Why are we at Rose Hills?  Well, I couldn't figure out how to find the hidden trailhead for Sycamore Canyon.  This trailhead is not anywhere where you would think a trailhead would be.  I passed the entrance and had no choice but to park at Rose Hills and go searching on foot for the trailhead.

Two driveways and one dead possum later (it really was dead, not just playing), we found the trailhead.

The Whittier Audobon Society has monthly birdwatching walks, so we decided to tag a long.  Thankfully, we weren't the only lost souls who couldn't find the trailhead and the Society president had to take quite a few phone calls from frustrated birdwatchers who couldn't figure out where to park.

We saw lots of hummingbirds.  According to one of the guides, this is an Anna's hummingbird.

Next birdwatching hike is February 13th.  I think I need to get a field guide.
